Kurt Müller (politician, 1925)

Kurt Müller (born March 16, 1925 in Zurich ; † February 8, 2016 ; entitled to live in Löhningen and Meilen ) was a Swiss politician ( FDP ) and journalist .

Family and work

Kurt Müller, son of the factory owner Jakob Müller and his wife Martha, born Imhoof, turned to the acquisition of maturity to the study of history and German literature at the University of Zurich to which he in 1950 with the promotion of Dr. phil. completed. He then pursued further studies in modern history and political science at the Universities of Naples , Paris and Oxford . After a brief activity as a secondary school teacher, he took up a position as a domestic editor at the Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ) in 1953 , in 1967 he was appointed head of the domestic editorial team, and in 1990 he was officially bid farewell.

Kurt Müller married Lucie, the daughter of Eduard Gut, in 1955.

Political career

Kurt Müller , who joined the Liberal Democratic Party , presided over the FDP Meilen from 1971 to 1976. At the cantonal level, he was elected to the Zurich Cantonal Council in 1971 , which he chaired in the 1979/80 year of office. After leaving the Zurich Cantonal Council in 1984, the people elected him to the National Council , where he was a member of the FDP parliamentary group as well as the permanent transport commission of the railways 2000 and the Jura question ; so he organized a secret meeting between Roland Béguelin and Federal Councilor Kurt Furgler in Feldmeilen . Kurt Müller resigned in 1991.

Kurt Müller also presided over the European Conference for Human Rights and Self-Determination from 1986 to 1990, from 1988 to 2001 the Aktion Treffen 91, then its successor organization Verein Treffen 91-2001 and from 1982 to 1994 the working group Church and Politics of the FDP Canton Zurich . Müller was a member of the board of the Swiss Feuilleton-Dienst (SFD) and the Swiss Helsinki Association .

Kurt Müller also emerged as the author of writings on the law question, liberalism and social democracy .
