Kurt Meier-Boudane

Kurt Meier-Boudane (born June 9, 1947 in St. Gallen , Canton St. Gallen , Switzerland ; † August 14, 2014 in Tromsø , Norway ) was a Swiss chess player who represented the Seychelles internationally .

Life

Until his death, Meier was a member of the Swiss chess seniors and the chess team from Niederrohrdorf . Since 2007 he has regularly participated in senior chess tournaments in Adelboden . He has represented the Seychelles internationally since 2006 and played for the Seychelles the 16th open chess championship 2014 in Dubai and four chess Olympiads ( 2006 , 2008 , 2010 and 2014 ). Meier was also a correspondence chess player, which achieved its highest ICCF rating of 2359 in the list for the third quarter of 2014 and represented Switzerland internationally. Until 2007 he represented Switzerland in friendly chess games against the USA, the Netherlands, Sweden, Spain and Finland as well as Germany. In the last friendly against Germany Meier reached the final against SIM Hartmut Höbel . Meier last lived in Wattenwil and was a journalist and employee of the Badische Zeitung until his retirement . In the Swiss Federal Chess League he played in the 2006 , 2006/07 and 2008/09 seasons for SC Niederrohrdorf, with whom he also took part in the European Club Cup three times . His last Elo rating was in 1944, his highest rating of 2124 he reached in April 2005. After he achieved 50% (5.5 points from 11 games) at the 2008 Chess Olympiad in Dresden , he was awarded the title of Candidate Master (CM ) awarded.

Meier died of a heart attack during the 2014 Chess Olympiad on August 14, 2014. He was playing the final round against Alain Patience Niyibizi from Rwanda at the time . It was not the only death: On the same evening, the Uzbek chess player Alisher Anarkulow (1969-2014) , starting for ICCD , was found dead in his hotel room.
