Kurt Fritz Konrad Wagner (born December 21, 1890 in Schweidnitz , † September 17, 1973 in Mainz ) was a German philologist and folklorist .

Life

Kurt Wagner, son of Oberpostdirektion Secretary August Wagner and Marie, born Wabnitz, high school senior at the high school Swidnica , studied German at the University of Breslau , which he there in 1916 with the promotion of Dr. phil. completed. He then worked from 1919 to 1927 as an assistant and collaborator at the German Language Atlas , completed his habilitation in 1920 as a private lecturer in German studies at the Philipps University of Marburg and became an associate professor there in 1926 .

After the handover of power to the National Socialists, Kurt Wagner became a member of the Combat League for German Culture , the Nazi Teachers' Association and the SA in 1933 . The Nazi Party , he joined the 1937th In November 1933 he signed the German professors' confession of Adolf Hitler .

Wagner moved from Marburg in 1934 to the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg , where he worked as a lecturer, from there in 1935 as a professor at the college for teacher training in Weilburg and in 1936 to the Justus Liebig University in Gießen , where he became a professor in 1939 adjunct professor was appointed. In 1946 he followed a call to the chair for German philology and folklore at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz , which he held until his retirement in 1958.

Wagner dealt in particular with phonetics , dialect and folklore issues.
