The 1996/97 season was the first regular season of the newly formed Ligue de hockey semi-professionnelle du Québec (LHSPQ). The 13 teams completed between 35 and 36 encounters in the regular season . The team with the highest points in the regular season were the Nova d'Acton Vale , while the Blizzard de Saint-Gabriel won the Coupe Futura for the first time in the play-offs .
