Lake Louise is a census-designated place (CDP) in Matanuska-Susitna Borough in Alaska in the United States . The area is northwest of Glennallen on the western border of Matanuska-Susitna Borough north of the Glenn Highway .
history
Lake Louise is located on the western corner of the historic Copper River - Ahtna - Athabasken area . The Ahtnas were semi-nomads who traded in fur with the Dena'ina Indian tribe on Cook Inlet . The area was settled during the 1940s. Today the area serves as a public recreation area (State Recreation Area) known for boating and fishing. Almost 85% of all houses are only inhabited in season. Students are mostly homeschooled.

Lake Louise is known for its trout population . Ice fishing is practiced in the winter months . Several lodges offer year-round accommodation. Many residents only work in season or are retired. A state runway is available for air traffic at the southern end of Lake Louise . There are also two private airstrips. The area is accessible via the Glenn Highway and Lake Louise Road.

At the time of the 2000 census ( US Census 2000 ) Lake Louise CDP had 88 inhabitants on a land area of 124 km². The median age was 47 years (US national mean: 35.3 years). The per capita income (English per capita income ) amounted to US $ 11,057 (national average of USA: US $ 21,587). 56.7% of the population had their income below the poverty line (national average in the USA: 12.4%). 13.6% of the population are of German descent and about 10.2% are descended from the indigenous people of Alaska .
