Buffalo Soapstone is a census-designated place (CDP) in Matanuska-Susitna Borough in Alaska in the United States . The area is on Moose Creek Road north of the Palmer and Farm Loop and west of the Glenn Highway .

history

The whole Matanuska - Susitna valley was laid out as a planned agricultural colony. 203 families, mostly from Michigan , Wisconsin, and Minnesota , moved to the area in 1935. Many of their descendants still live there. Low housing costs, the rural lifestyle and the proximity to the city of Anchorage favored population growth.

At the time of the 2000 census ( US Census 2000 ) Buffalo Soapstone CDP had 699 inhabitants on a land area of ​​58.5 km². The mean age was 33.4 years (US national mean: 35.3 years).
