history
The area around Wasilla was called "Benteh" (between the lakes) by the Dena'ina Athabascans . In 1915, workers from the Willow Creek Mining District began to settle in what is now the Lake area around Lakes Finger and Cottonwood . In the 1930s, WJ Bogard, one of the area's wealthiest farmers, was instrumental in promoting the construction of Bogard Road , a road link to Wasilla. In the 1980s, the community grew rapidly due to its location in the catchment area of the city of Anchorage.
