Lazy Mountain is a census-designated place (CDP) in Matanuska-Susitna Borough in Alaska in the United States .
geography
The area is located at the foot of the eponymous Lazy Mountain near the town of Palmer . It lies east of the Matanuska River and is accessible via the Old Glenn Highway .
history
The area was settled around 1915 when the Alaska Railroad created job opportunities. A children's home (Lazy Mountain Children's Home) was in operation from 1947 until the early 1960s. For a while there was a ski lift in the recreation area around the mountain, but it has since been dismantled.
economy
The residents work in the catchment area of the cities of Palmer and Wasilla or in Anchorage . Vegetables, grain, hay and potatoes are grown. There are a few U-Pick farms in the area . There are no retail stores.

At the time of the 2000 census ( US Census 2000 ) Lazy Mountain CDP had 1158 inhabitants on a land area of 91.9 km². The median age was 36.4 years (US national mean: 35.3 years). The per capita income (engl. The per capita income ) amounted to US $ 22,789 (national average of USA: US $ 21,587). 7.8% of the population had their income below the poverty line (national average in the USA: 12.4%). 20.5% of the population are Irish , 19.8% German and 17.4% English .
