Lazy Mountain is a census-designated place (CDP) in Matanuska-Susitna Borough in Alaska in the United States .

geography

The area is located at the foot of the eponymous Lazy Mountain near the town of Palmer . It lies east of the Matanuska River and is accessible via the Old Glenn Highway .

history

The area was settled around 1915 when the Alaska Railroad created job opportunities. A children's home (Lazy Mountain Children's Home) was in operation from 1947 until the early 1960s. For a while there was a ski lift in the recreation area around the mountain, but it has since been dismantled.

economy

The residents work in the catchment area of ​​the cities of Palmer and Wasilla or in Anchorage . Vegetables, grain, hay and potatoes are grown. There are a few U-Pick farms in the area . There are no retail stores.
