history

The Mühlviertel electoral district was created with Law No. 29 of March 18, 1925 as part of the amendment to the state election regulations of March 18, 1919. By law, the constituency was formed from the judicial districts of Aigen , Freistadt , Grein , Lembach , Leonfelden , Mauthausen , Neufelden , Prägarten , Rohrbach and Unterweissenbach , with Freistadt as the seat of the electoral authority. While the state election regulations of 1919 still provided for eight constituencies, the number of constituencies was reduced to five with the change in the law in 1925. The constituency of Mühlviertel was created out of the constituency Rohrbach (constituency 2) and the constituency of Freistadt (constituency 3).

In 1949, the area of the constituency was finally equated with constituency 16 of the National Council electoral code, which included the same area.

With the Oö. In 1967 the amendment to the Landtag election order changed the area of the constituency. The constituency now comprised the districts of Freistadt, Rohrbach and Perg, from the Urfahr-Umgebung district only the municipalities of Bad Leonfelden, Haibach im Mühlkreis, Oberneukirchen, Ottenschlag im Mühlkreis, Reichenau im Mühlkreis, Reichenthal, Schenkenfelden, Vorderweissenbach and Zwettl an der Rodl remained in the constituency Mühlviertel. The remaining part of the Urfahr-Umgebung district fell to the Linz and environs constituency .

With the Oö. Amendment to the Landtag election regulation in 1971, the area of the constituency was finally enlarged to the size it is today, with the districts of Freistadt, Rohrbach and Perg already belonging to them and the entire Urfahr-Umgebung district coming to the Mühlviertel constituency.
