Legio XX Siciliana

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Legio XX Siciliana was a legion of the Roman army. It was probably set up in the Roman Civil Wars (49–31 BC). The name Siciliana indicates a participation in the bellum Siculum against Sextus Pompeius in 36 BC. BC that Octavian and his general Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa led around Sicily.

The Legion is only mentioned under this name in the two grave inscriptions of the signer Aulus Silanus and the veteran Gaius Marius from the late 1st century BC. Occupied. Both inscriptions come from what is now the Italian province of Benevento and their dating is at least uncertain.
