The Legio II Iulia Alpina was a legion of the Roman army, which was probably raised under Emperor Constans (337-350 AD) and existed until the 5th century. It was named after the Julian Alps , where the legion was set up and / or was initially stationed. The Legion's emblem is unknown.

She was believed to be with her sister legions

initially stationed in the province of Alpes Cottiae . She was later transferred to Illyricum .

Presumably, particularly capable soldiers of the Secunda Iulia were split off from the Limitaneilegion (Grenzheer) II Iulia Alpina in connection with the barbarian invasions of the early 5th century and incorporated into the Illyrian field army as pseudocomitanenses .

At the time of the Notitia Dignitatum around 430 the rest of the Secunda Iulia Alpina had also been promoted to Pseudocomitatenses under the command of Magister Peditum and operated on campaigns together with the Legio Prima Alpina . The Secunda Iulia served under the Comes Illyrici .
