The German Disabled Sports Association (DBS), the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) for Germany, initially set up a team of 23 athletes (8 women and 15 men) for the 2017 World Athletics Championships for the disabled . The 2016 Paralympics winner Heinrich Popow , who was injured on the television show “Let's dance”, and Birgit Kober could not take part. Shortly before departure, Frances Herrmann and Felix Streng, two other medal winners at the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, were injured and Tom Malutedi was nominated as a substitute runner for the relay. David Behre injured himself on site before his first competition. The now 21-strong squad won 22 medals.
The debutants were racing wheelchair drivers Annika Zeyen and David Scherer . At 19, Lindy Ave was the youngest participant. The Disabled and Rehabilitation Sports Association of North Rhine-Westphalia (BRSNW) made up over half of the German team with 13 athletes.
Results
