Lemmier Chapel

Lemmie [ ˈlɛmjə ] is a village and district of the city of Gehrden in the Hanover region in Lower Saxony .

history

Lemmie was first mentioned in a document from Pope Innocent III. who in 1216 transferred two Hufen land (60 acres in Lemenithe) to the Loccum monastery at this point .

The exact year of construction of the chapel in Lemmie is not known, the inscription on the bell proves that it was cast in 1652 by master Ludolf Siegfriedt. However, there is evidence in church registers that the leather bell suspension was repaired in 1596, so there must have been a bell back then and the chapel must have existed before this time.

The manor in Lem̅je came into being when Börries von Hattorf bought seven farms from 1852 in order to merge them and turn them into a manor with voting rights. To this end, he bought a knight's vote from the Lords of Lenthe in 1865 and achieved that some time later Lemmie was included among the manors of the Principality of Calenberg eligible to vote in the state parliament . His heir, Amalie von Hattorf, married Franz von Ditfurth in 1871 .

Incorporations

On August 1, 1971, the Lemmies community merged to form the large community of Gehrden.

The local council of Lemmie consists of five councilors from the following parties:

According to the election results, the FDP had three seats. However, since the party's list of candidates was exhausted, one seat was lapsed. In addition, the local council member of the Greens ended his membership. The local council therefore only has five instead of the seven originally planned for the electoral period up to 2021.

Local mayor

The local mayor is Hilmar Rump (FDP). He has held this office since 1996. His deputy is Peter Nispel (SPD).

coat of arms

The design of the municipal coat of arms of Lemmie comes from the heraldist and graphic artist Alfred Brecht , who designed all the coats of arms in the Hanover region. The approval of the coat of arms was granted on April 30, 1963 by the district president in Hanover.

Lemmie coat of arms
Blasonierung : " Silver  : Red diagonally left divided , above a red Cross Moline , below a silver plow ."
Reasons for the coat of arms: Presumably the Old High German lamb , i.e. lamb / sheep, gave the place its name. Place name researchers interpret the place name Lemmie as a "settlement on the sheep pasture". Nevertheless, at the request of the parish fathers, this should not appear in the coat of arms, instead the Counts of Pyrmont should be honored in the colors of the diocese of Minden , and their symbol, the anchor cross, should be adopted. The diocese of Minden can also be found in the coat of arms of the neighboring town of Sorsum and shows the close ties between the landowners of the two towns that still exist today. The ploughshare symbolizes the farming village.
