Northen is a village and district of the city of Gehrden in the Hanover region on the edge of the Benther Mountain in Lower Saxony .

history

Northen was first mentioned in a document around 1260 in a register of the Minden cathedral chapter. The name of the place probably has its origin in the location of Gehrden in the south, with which there was close contact since early times.

On August 1, 1971, the community merged voluntarily to form the city of Gehrden.

coat of arms

The draft emblem of Northen comes from the in Gadenstedt born and later in Hannover living heraldic and graphic artist Alfred Brecht , who has the coat of arms of Bantorf , Barrigsen , Egestorf has designed and many other villages in the district of Hannover. The approval of the coat of arms was granted on June 9, 1971 by the district president in Hanover.

Northen Coat of Arms
Blazon : "Under a blue shield head , inside a striding, golden lion , red armored , in silver three intertwined, blue scythe leaves , which form a large capital" N " ."
Justification for the coat of arms: In the meeting on April 16, 1971, the council chose the coat of arms described above from the two drafts that the council had submitted to resolution since 1962, each symbolizing the centuries-long sovereignty of the Guelph dukes. With this, Northen took the opportunity in the last hour until the transition to the city of Gehrden and gave the place a coat of arms as a permanent symbol for the future, which emphasizes the local colors blue and white / silver. Although a large number of heraldic lions have already been taken, the coat of arms is likely to be unique because of the scythe leaves that are characteristic to the "N".
