Leonhard David von Koeller (born December 8, 1831 in Bromberg ; † August 24, 1915 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and commander of the 9th Division .

Leonhard was a son of the Prussian lieutenant colonel Karl von Koeller (1776–1863) and his wife Auguste, née von Lutz (1798–1883).

Military career

After attending the Higher Dorothee Städt's city school in Berlin and the cadets houses in Potsdam and Berlin Koeller occurred on 28 April 1849 as uncharacterized Portepeefähnrich in the 2nd Infantry Regiment of the Prussian army one. He was promoted to Second Lieutenant by mid-October 1850 and was adjutant of the 1st Battalion in the 2nd Landwehr Regiment in Stettin from October 1, 1853 to June 30, 1856 . During the German War of 1866 he fought near Gitschin and Königgrätz . On April 20, 1870 he was assigned to the Infantry Training Battalion. During the Franco-Prussian War he came to the replacement battalion of his regiment on July 20, 1870 and then to the mobile regiment in France on September 11, 1870. On November 8, 1870 he was aggregated to the 7th Brandenburg Infantry Regiment No. 60 and promoted to major on December 22, 1870. During the campaign he fought near Metz and Paris as well as the battles near Nogent-le-Roi and Dijon.

Awarded the Iron Cross II. Class, Koeller was assigned to the regiment after the peace treaty on June 24, 1871 and was appointed commander of the II. Battalion in mid-May 1873. On September 20, 1876, he was transferred to the Lieutenant Colonel and on May 14, 1881 as a commander in the Grenadier Regiment "King Friedrich Wilhelm IV." (1st Pomeranian) No. 2 .
