Ließem is a village in the municipality of Wachtberg in the Rhein-Sieg district in North Rhine-Westphalia , south of Bonn .

geography

Ließem is located on an old Rhine terrace in the Drachenfelser Ländchen . The district of Ließem is approx. 323 hectares and borders in the north on the districts of Heiderhof and Lannesdorf in the federal city of Bonn . The border runs along the Wittgesbach, a tributary of the Rhine . The Noßbach , also called Furtgraben , rises in the Ließem district and flows into the Wittgesbach.

The settlement area is divided into two by Kreisstraße 14 : to the east is the older village area, to the west is the new building area, which was built between 1972 and 1975 with around 270 residential units. The new development area is popularly called Köllenhof , so named after the courtyard to which the built-up fields previously belonged.

history

The first known documented mention of the place name Liezheim comes from the year 795. After 1301, Ließem belonged to the cologne burgraves of Drachenfels together with the neighboring villages of Berkum , Gimmersdorf , Niederbachem , Oberbachem , Pissenheim (today Werthhoven ) and Züllighoven . From 1798 to 1815 these localities formed the French Mairie Villip in the canton of Bonn. From 1816 to 1969 Ließem was part of the mayor's office in Villip , which in 1930 was renamed "Amt Villip". On August 1, 1969, the independent municipality of Ließem became one of 13 districts of the newly founded municipality of Wachtberg through the law on the municipal reorganization of the Bonn area ( Bonn law ).

Before the relocation of the seat of government to Berlin (1999), Ließem (Hohler Weg 5) was the residence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Zambia in the Federal Republic of Germany. (→ List of diplomatic missions )

Attractions

The neo-Gothic, three-aisled St. Mary's Chapel was built from 1884 to 1886. It is a foundation of the Catholic priest Gottfried Köllen from Ließem. Until December 31, 2009, the chapel was a place of worship for the parish of the Holy Three Kings in Oberbachem . On January 1st, 2010 the parish was merged into the newly founded parish of St. Marien Wachtberg .

The Köllenhof is a four-winged Franconian courtyard from the 17th century, which was converted into a culture and meeting center in 1989. There is also a municipal library of the Wachtberg library network.
