Lily Luahana Cole (born December 27, 1987 in Torquay , England ) is a British model. Cole has also gained notoriety as an actress, in 2008 she took on the female lead in Terry Gilliam's film The Cabinet of Doctor Parnassus .

Cole grew up in London . She was discovered by a model scout at the age of 14 in a fast food restaurant in Soho and signed a contract with Storm Models , who discovered Kate Moss , among others . In 2003, Steven Meisel photographed her for a photo series in the Italian edition of Vogue . From then on she was considered one of the leading new faces of the year and has since worked with well-known photographers such as Craig McDean , Nick Knight , Juergen Teller , Arthur Elgort and Irving Penn . Photos of her appeared in various issues of Vogue , V, and Citizen K ; Cole graced the cover of Vogue several times . In November 2004, she was named Model of the Year at the British Fashion Awards . She was nominated again for Model of the Year in 2007, but lost to Agyness Deyn .

Cole appeared in advertising campaigns from Chanel , Christian Lacroix , Hermès and Cacharel, among others , and was the face of the I Love Love perfume by Moschino . On international catwalks, she appeared in shows by Chanel, DKNY , Jean-Paul Gaultier , Versace , Alexander McQueen , John Galliano and Louis Vuitton, among others . In October 2009, Cole signed an advertising contract with cosmetics company Rimmel London and is the youngest model to date to advertise the Marks and Spencer clothing line.

Cole is involved in many social and societal issues, including as an ambassador for the Global Angels Children Charity and the Environmental Justice Foundation. Cole wrote the foreword for the 2007 book "Green is the new Black". She takes an active part in the public debate about ways out of the climate crisis . She is a co-signer of an open letter published in December 2018, in which politicians are accused of having failed to address the crisis and are called on to join movements like Extinction Rebellion and to refrain from consumption .

In 2007, Cole played a supporting role in The Girls of St. Trinian and in 2008 took on the female lead in Terry Gilliam's fantasy film The Cabinet of Doctor Parnassus , which was released in Germany in 2010. In 2009, Cole starred in Sally Potter's film Rage . In 2011 she appeared in the American gothic horror film Die Sehnsucht der Falter by Mary Harron .
