The Me 334 project was a design for a fighter by Alexander Lippisch while working for the German manufacturer Messerschmitt .
It is assumed that it is a derivation from Lippisch P.01 . In 1943, investigations were carried out with a model of this project in Göttingen . The origin of the project number is not clear. It was not included in the RLM type list .
history
The designer Alexander Lippisch worked as head of department L at the Messerschmitt works. Since May 1942, the availability of the rocket motor developed by Hellmuth Walter was waited there. Lippisch calculated a number of different alternatives, including the Me 334 project with a piston engine and a design that was later re-examined as the Lippisch P 20 with a Jumo 004 .
After the dissolution of Department L on April 28, 1943, Lippisch moved to Vienna. This fact and the availability of the Walter engine in June 1943 meant the end of the Me 334 project.
construction
The wing was taken directly from the Me 163B . It had a retractable nose wheel landing gear. The engine was housed in the front fuselage. A propeller in the stern was driven by a long-distance shaft. The cockpit was designed for good all-round visibility. The armament was provided directly above the engine. The vertical stabilizer pointed downwards.
