The Messerschmitt Me 210 was a two-seat, twin-engine destroyer- class fighter aircraft used by the German Air Force in World War II .
description
The aircraft was planned as the successor to the Messerschmitt Bf 110 . Like these, the first prototype Me 210 V1 also had a double vertical stabilizer at the beginning , but this was replaced by a single large one on all other machines. Due to design errors that could bring the machine into a dangerous flat spin , the already started production after 261 machines had to be stopped and the production of the Bf 110 had to be restarted. 148 copies of the already built aircraft were converted to long fuselages and equipped with engines of the type DB 605 , whereby the problems could be solved. 64 aircraft with a long fuselage (including 12 V models) were created from assemblies, so that a total of 325 Me 210 were built from German production by March 1943. In Hungary, production began in early 1943 and a total of 377 aircraft were produced by July 1944. Thus the total production of the Me 210 is 702 aircraft. As a further development with a modified wing and more powerful engines of the type DB 603 , the Me 410 was put into service from 1943 .
