The Messerschmitt Me 329 was a German fighter aircraft project from the time of World War II . By the end of the war, however, only a dummy had been completed. It was planned to be used as a bomber , dive fighter and for military reconnaissance .
development
Development began with a design from 1941 by Alexander Lippisch with the original designation Lippisch P.010 . The span should initially be 13.5 m, later 16 m, the length 8.15 m or 9.85 m.
After the project of the Messerschmitt Me 210 had to be canceled, a completely new design was tackled, which represented a "cross" between the Lippisch P. 10 and the aforementioned type. The Reich Aviation Ministry initially named this new aircraft the Messerschmitt Me 265 . The design envisaged a tailless fighter-bomber of short length. The armament was initially to include two MG 151/20 and two MG 17 rigidly in the fuselage bow and two MG 131s in movable gondolas on the side walls of the fuselage, later on they switched to four MG 151/20 in the bow and one in the stern, which are remotely controlled by the pilot should.
The final designation Me 329 was given at the beginning of 1944. A three-part wing has now been specified for the cantilevered swept wing middle decker. The remaining elements largely corresponded to those of the Messerschmitt Me 265 design. In the spring of 1945, the first sliding and towing tests were carried out in Rechlin with a dummy . A finished model could no longer be built. A dummy fell into the hands of the Americans. The Me 329 was also planned as an escort fighter for the so-called America bomber , which was to attack large American cities across the Atlantic.
