Marketplace
( location )
Ensemble market place The ensemble includes the small monastery market and the former Premonstratensian Abbey Church in Steingaden. The market, a largely closed, enclosed street, is in front of the church to the west. The buildings that surround the market square, inn, monastery judge's house, residential and commercial buildings, date from the 17th and 18th centuries. Century, when the monastery was in a new, above all artistic bloom after the war destruction, or they belong to the time after the secularization. These are two- and three-story buildings with saddle, mansard and hipped roofs, which identify the market square as the center of the baroque monastery courtyard and, with the Biedermeier buildings of the early 19th century, also as a bourgeois place. The Romanesque west wing of the cloister (now the vicarage), which was later built over, and the walled cemetery with the Johanneskapelle, a small Romanesque central building, and the late Gothic gatehouse at the passage from the market square to the churchyard, belong to the ensemble. Wies
( location )
Ensemble Wies church with hamlet The ensemble is an outstanding monument to the history of piety in the 18th century, its dominant building, the pilgrimage church of the Scourged Savior, is one of the most important structures of the southern German Rococo. The brightly shining, ingeniously modified central building, to which a long choir adjoins to the east and the tower as well as the symmetrically developed priory, enclosed by a garden wall, forms a facade to the west. The world-famous Rococo furnishings of the church are the work of Johann Baptist Zimmermann . The pilgrimage hamlet, picturesquely situated in a clearing in front of the Trauchberg slopes surrounded by forest areas and felts, expanded in the 19th century to include four more farm properties, to which two smaller new buildings have recently been added; the Wiesbauernhof had come through marriage to Franz Dominikus Zimmermann , Dominikus' son, who set up the pilgrim's inn there. Remarks

  1. This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The monument property - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the monument atlas or the entry in the Bavarian monument list. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
