( Location ) Generalshotel: Custom-made for generals and personalities in politics and business, on the airport grounds In 2011 the Brandenburg Ministry of Infrastructure granted the demolition permit because the complex stood in the way of the new government terminal. The outwardly rather inconspicuous hotel was built shortly after the end of the Second World War and initially served to accommodate higher ranks of the Soviet army . In 1961, together with the conversion of the airfield into a civil airport, it came into the possession of the GDR. Government flights were now handled through this building and high-ranking guests of state were welcomed here. After the fall of the Wall , the Federal Police moved in here and are still using it. The interior is lavishly designed with marble , travertine , fabric wallpapers, partly colored coffered ceilings and equipped with chandeliers . The monument office had voted against the demolition, but was able to ensure that everything is documented in detail beforehand. Individual components such as large chandeliers, the wrought-iron railing of the foyer or wall cupboards of the former general suite are to be expanded and preserved for posterity.
