season 1

Because of the lack of energy it is also not possible to establish a Stargate connection between Atlantis and Earth. So begins the search for ZPMs, especially with the background of putting the Atlantis defense systems into operation in order to be able to fend off an impending attack by the Wraith.

The first season is parallel to the eighth season of Stargate - Command SG-1 . The first broadcasts of this season began in the United States in 2004 on the US SciFi channel , in Canada on The Movie Network (TMN) and in 2005 in Germany on Premiere , then on RTL II on February 23, 2005.

Teyla is the descendant of one of the test subjects. Dr. Beckett suspects that the Wraith evolved because Iratus beetles mixed their DNA with humans. Meanwhile, more and more Wraith end up in town. Ford's team is surrounded and Col. Everett is overwhelmed.

season 2

season 3

The Atlantis expedition discovers a new, overpowering opponent in a weapon created by the Ancients - which was originally intended to be used against the Wraith, but assumed human-like form and was then abandoned - a new, overpowering opponent who is reminiscent of the human-like Replicators models of the previous series. The Wraith are still a dangerous opponent, but it turns out that they are more complex than assumed. In addition, the Intergalactic Gate Bridge is being built, which consists of a series of stargates positioned between the galaxies and enables a connection between Earth and Atlantis without ZPM.

The third season, the action of which runs parallel to the tenth season of Stargate SG-1 , was officially confirmed on October 24, 2005. Shooting started on February 20, 2006 in Vancouver. The SciFi-Channel broadcast the first 10 episodes from July 14, 2006. The worldwide first broadcast from the 11th episode took the Canadian broadcaster Movie Central on November 20, 2006. The German first broadcast took place on October 17, 2007 on RTL II .

Towards the end of the season, two main characters say goodbye: Dr. Beckett dies in the episode A Day Off (in the original Sunday ), so Paul McGillion temporarily retired from the series. Dr. Weir , the leader of the Atlantis expedition, is seriously injured during the escape of the city ship Atlantis in the final cliffhanger of the season entitled The Attack (in the original First Strike ). In the fourth season produced from 2007, it should only appear in individual episodes.

On August 21, 2006, the American SciFi channel confirmed the cancellation of Stargate SG-1 , but announced in the same breath that it had ordered a fourth season of Stargate Atlantis. The start of broadcasting in the United States was September 28, 2007. Season 4 was first available on DVD in Holland with a German soundtrack in October 2008. The fourth season of television broadcasting began on February 16, 2009 on the German SciFi channel, Monday through Thursday from 8:15 p.m., and ended on March 19, 2009. From February 25, 2009, RTL II broadcast every Wednesday at 20:00 : 3 p.m. two episodes of season 4. The broadcast was thus completed on April 29, 2009.

The appearance of Samantha Carter in a recurring and important role in the series is partly due to the fact that the actress Amanda Tapping already signed an early contract extension for an eleventh season due to her baby break in the ninth season of the series Stargate SG-1. However, since the series did not continue, the character was brought to Atlantis for a season.

Other cast changes included Torri Higginson ( Dr. Elizabeth Weir ). She was only seen in guest appearances. Jewel Staite took over as Dr. Jennifer Keller played the role of Medical Director on Atlantis for Paul McGillion ( Dr. Carson Beckett ).

Season 5

On October 23, 2007 it was announced that the US SciFi channel extended the offshoot of the Stargate series by another season. This means that a total of 100 episodes of Stargate Atlantis were shot. The season premiere was on July 11, 2008 on the SciFi channel. Soon after, it was announced that the series would end after Season 5. The season and series finale was broadcast on January 9, 2009 on the SciFi channel. The German first broadcast of the 5th season began on August 12, 2009 at 8:15 pm on RTL II. Until August 26, 2009 the station showed two episodes in a row; from September 2nd only single episodes at 9:10 p.m. The German premiere of Stargate Atlantis ended on December 2, 2009.

At the end of the fifth season, the Wraith launch an attack on Earth. Atlantis is brought into the Milky Way to repel the attack there, which is also successful. The last scene of the entire series shows the city floating relatively unscathed off the American west coast, with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background . However, since the city is invisible through a cloaking device, the world population has still not heard of the Stargate program.

Some changes to the line-up compared to previous seasons were announced before the broadcast:
