List of members of the Liechtenstein Parliament (1928)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This list shows the members of the Landtag of the Principality of Liechtenstein , which emerged from the Landtag elections of July 15, 1928 and the runoff elections on July 29, 1928. Proposals from the Christian Social People's Party (VP) and the Progressive Citizens' Party (FBP) were submitted for election . The election took place after a fraud affair at the Sparkassa was discovered and known as the so-called Sparkassa scandal. Prince Johann I Josef then dissolved the state parliament and called new elections. The result was a novelty in the history of the Liechtenstein Parliament: For the first time, the FBP reached more MPs than the VP.

To be elected to the state parliament, you needed an absolute majority of all votes cast, with each voter having as many votes as there were candidates to be elected. If several candidates achieved an absolute majority of the votes, those with the most votes were drawn. Seven MPs were elected in the Oberland constituency and five in the Unterland constituency. Since a seat of parliament remained vacant due to a lack of an absolute majority after the first ballot, a runoff election took place on July 29, 1928 between the two best-placed candidates.

In 1930, the (VP) was of the opinion that the elections in 1928, since they were early elections, had merely continued the legislative period of 1926 and that regional elections would therefore have to take place that year. The government and the state parliament were of the opinion that the 1928 elections were the beginning of a new legislative period and that the next elections would therefore not take place until 1932. Since the four MPs of the VP considered their term of office to be over, they resigned from the state parliament in 1930. The four seats that had become vacant were filled in by-elections on March 16, 1930, in which the VP did not participate out of protest and did not nominate any candidates. Therefore, from 1930 to 1932, the state parliament consisted exclusively of members of the Progressive Citizens' Party (FBP).

List of members

In Oberland 1401 votes were cast, which means that a candidate needed at least 701 votes to enter the state parliament. In the Unterland 700 votes were counted, so 351 votes were enough.

In the by-election on March 16, 1930, 1,343 votes were cast, of which 726 were valid. Thus, 364 votes were enough to obtain an absolute majority and to enter the state parliament.
