List of members of the Liechtenstein Parliament (1939)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This list shows the members of the Landtag of the Principality of Liechtenstein , which was appointed after a resolution by the Liechtenstein government on April 6, 1939 following a so-called silent election. With the reform of the electoral law in January 1939 - in addition to the 18 percent ban - the previous majority procedure was replaced by proportional voting and the option of silent voting was introduced. This means that the parties can agree on a composition of the state parliament which, if there are no other election proposals, can be declared as elected by the government. In addition, the communal association, which was only introduced in 1932, in which any commune with more than 300 inhabitants could have one representative, was lifted again. Another important change in these state elections was the introduction of deputies who move up when a member of parliament has left parliament.

Due to the Second World War, which broke out in Europe in 1939, the next state elections did not take place four years later, i.e. in 1943, as usual, but only in 1945 according to a corresponding ordinance by Prince Franz Josef II. The term of office was extended indefinitely during this period.

composition

The two Liechtenstein parties, the Progressive Citizens' Party (FBP) and the Fatherland Union (VU), agreed that VU would have five members in the Oberland constituency and two in the Unterland constituency. The FBP, on the other hand, got four MPs each in Oberland and Unterland.
