In the list of prehistorians and medieval archaeologists at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg , all professors who taught at the Martin Luther University in Halle (Saale) are listed . As a rule, this includes all regular university professors who were allowed to give lectures, i.e. who had completed their habilitation . In particular, these are full professors , non-scheduled professors , junior professors , guest professors , honorary professors , chair representatives and private lecturers .

The first chair for prehistory in Halle was established in 1918. The first owner was Hans Hahne , who had been director of the Provincial Museum in Halle since 1912 . The dual function of chair holder and museum director was retained until 1958. In 1959 Hermann Behrens took over the post of museum director and Friedrich Schlette the chair at the newly established Institute for Prehistory and Early History at the Martin Luther University. In the 1990s, the chair for prehistory remained vacant for a few years; instead, Klaus-Dieter Jäger took over the management of the institute as professor for geoarchaeology and prehistoric ecology. In 1998, François Bertemes , a professor of prehistoric archeology, could be won for the institute. In 2004 a chair for archeology of the Middle Ages and modern times was established. The first owner was Hans-Georg Stephan . In 2006 the Institute for Prehistory and Early History was merged with the Institute for Classical Archeology and the Institute for Art History to form the new Institute for Art History and Archeologies of Europe.
