The list of sacred buildings in Heidelberg includes the synagogue and the churches in Heidelberg that are architecturally or urbanistically recognizable as sacred buildings, including those that are no longer used as such. Hospital and cemetery chapels as well as destroyed buildings such as the synagogues or numerous monastery churches in the old town are not included.
The Protestant churches belong to the Heidelberg deanery in the Evangelical Church in Baden , the Roman Catholic to the Heidelberg-Weinheim deanery in the Archdiocese of Freiburg , the New Apostolic to the Heidelberg church district in the New Apostolic Church of Southern Germany .
While the church buildings in the old town are from the Gothic and Baroque periods , the districts feature medieval village churches on the one hand and numerous historicist church buildings from the turn of the 19th to the 20th century on the other .
Sacred buildings
The list can be sorted by church name, district, denomination, architect and year of construction. The denomination indicates the current one; numerous older churches have changed them or were used as simultaneous churches at times . The year indicates the year the current building was completed (several years in the case of extensive expansions).
