List of Argentine soccer champions
The list of Argentine football champions lists all of the national champions in football in Argentina .
The first football championship in Argentina was played in 1891 by the Primera División, founded by the Association Argentine Football (AAF), with five teams. Under the direction of the "father of Argentine football", Alexander Watson Hutton , the association was reorganized in 1893 as Asociación del Fútbol Argentino (AFA) , under whose roof the national football competitions are held to this day.
In the first decades of the 20th century, competitor associations tried to establish themselves against the AFA, but they did not last. These were the Federación Argentina de Football (FAF; 1912-1914), the Asociación Amateurs de Football (AamF, 1919-1926) and the League Argentina de Football (LAF, 1931-1934). Their championships are now recognized as being equal to those of the AFA.
