The castle was built by Joseph Stainberger in 1737 and has been owned by the Mayr-Melnhof family since 1872 . The castle was redesigned several times in the 19th and 20th centuries and was badly damaged by fire in 1945, after which it was restored.

The castle is surrounded by a large English park , including a charnel house on the former Mauritzen cemetery. The Karner is a late Gothic hexagonal building with two storeys, the ossuary on the lower storey with a fan vault on a round central support, and the six-part vault on the upper storey. The arched portal shows a finial and lateral pinnacles , three-lane pointed arched windows with rich tracery . On the parapet of the porch with stairs there is a Roman stone with three bust portraits soon after 212, which was brought here from the Pfannberg ruins .

On the side of the Mur is a wayside shrine with a stone statue of Johann Nepomuk from the middle of the 18th century.
