The Portuguese Embassy in Prague

The list of Portuguese ambassadors in Czechoslovakia lists the ambassadors of the Republic of Portugal in Czechoslovakia . The two states maintained diplomatic relations between 1921 and 1993. Relations were replaced by Portuguese-Czech relations in 1993 with the re-establishment of today's Czech Republic .

Relations between the two countries, going back to the 15th century, were re-established after the establishment of Czechoslovakia in 1918 with the establishment of direct diplomatic relations in 1921. After diplomatic relations were broken off in 1937, the German occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1938 and the subsequent World War I until 1945, the now socialist Czechoslovakia joined the Eastern Bloc . The anti-communist dictatorship in Portugal remained at a distance from Czechoslovakia until the end of the Portuguese Estado Novo regime with the left-wing Carnation Revolution in 1974. After that, both countries renewed their diplomatic relations, and Portugal set up its own embassy in Prague for the first time.
