List of Portuguese ambassadors in Andorra
The list of Portuguese ambassadors in Andorra lists the ambassadors of the Republic of Portugal in Andorra . The two states entered into direct diplomatic relations in 1994 after the adoption of the first Andorran constitution in 1993 and the subsequent establishment of Andorra as a sovereign state.
For the first time , a Portuguese representative accredited himself to Andorra with the two regents in 1995. Andorra is the only country in the world to have a head of state who is held jointly by two foreign officials, the Bishop of Urgell and the President of France , who preside over the country in a symbolic dual rule . Therefore, accreditations for the two regents are common for Andorra, so that two accreditation dates are usually given in this list.
Portugal opened its own embassy in the Andorran capital Andorra la Vella in 2003, but closed it again in 2012 as part of its austerity measures after its deep economic crisis as a result of the euro crisis . Since then, the Portuguese representative in Spain has been responsible for Andorra again , and is accredited there for a second time .
There is a Portuguese honorary consulate in the Andorran capital Andorra la Vella .
