List of historical chess players
The list of historical chess players shows chess players who have performed outstandingly in chess, but for various reasons do not have a title, e.g. B. the world champion or grandmaster title . Most of the players listed here lived before the title was established. Players are selected based on their presence at major chess tournaments or coverage in relevant publications . In case of doubt, their level of awareness can be proven by entries in chess lexicons. The list does not claim to be complete.
