The Hainich is part of the northern shell limestone framing of the Thuringian Basin and stretches from Bad Langensalza in the southeast to Mühlhausen - Eigenrieden in the north, where it merges smoothly into the Upper Eichsfeld . The list is sorted by fortifications from north to south.
