Ljungdalen is a village ( småort ) with about 130 permanent residents in the Swedish municipality of Berg in the province of Jämtlands län . The area belongs to the north-western part of the historical province (landskap) Härjedalen , near its border with Jämtland . The place is located in the Scandinavian Mountains near the highest point in Sweden south of the Arctic Circle, 1797 meters above sea level. high Helags in Helagsfjäll , on the Ljungan river , which gives it its name ( Ljungdalen means something like "Ljungan valley"; the derivation of Swedish ljung for ' heather ' is probably a folk etymological interpretation ).
Ljungdalen can be reached via the Flatruetvägen from Funäsdalen . At 974.82 m, the road is Sweden's highest pass road. There is also a connection to the European route 45 in Åsarna , which guarantees a supply even on a snowy pass.
In addition to traditional agriculture and forestry , tourism in Ljungdalen is very important. In winter the place is mainly used as a ski area, there are among other things a chair lift with three slopes, cross- country trails and marked snowmobile and cross-country trails .
