research

Lluís Brines' main line of research has been the thought and works of Francesc Eiximenis .

The research by Lluís Brines about Francesc Eiximenis began with his doctoral thesis, after law graduate of the University of Valencia was. This task took 4 years (1998–2002). The original title of the doctoral thesis was La filosofia política i jurídica de Francesc Eiximenis (The Political and Legal Philosophy of Francesc Eiximenis). Many aspects of the works of Francesc Eiximenis and points of view are taken into account in this work: social, political, economic and legal. The book is particularly concerned with the theological Franciscan thinking in Eiximenis' works. The book also has to do with eschatological topics and prophecy. This thesis was published in 2004 with a few additions. The title now was La Filosofia Social i Política de Francesc Eiximenis (The Social and Political Philosophy of Francesc Eiximenis). The book was reprinted in Estudios Franciscanos (Franciscan Studies) between 2006 and 2007. That included an additional short biography of Francesc Eiximenis.

Later, in 2009, Brines wrote a Biografia documentada de Francesc Eiximenis (Documented Biography of Francesc Eiximenis) on a grant from the Valencian Academy of Language . This book was finally published in 2018.

Also in 2009, together with the philologist Josep Palomero, he took part in a modernized edition of Francesc Eiximenis' classic book Regiment de la cosa pública (Government of the Republic).

His recent research has delved into the theological aspects of Eiximenis' thought. The result is the article Tendències de pensament franciscà en Francesc Eiximenis (Tendencies of Franciscan Thought in Francesc Eiximenis), which was published in the EF 2014.

A small contribution in 2015 for an overall homage to the Swiss Eiximenis researcher Curt Wittlin can also be highlighted. The title is "Eiximenis i la ciència" (Eiximenis and Science).

One of his last lines of research is Ramon Llull's thinking (especially his theological aspect within Franciscan thought). As 2016 marks the 800th anniversary of Llull's death, Brines wrote an article entitled Tendències franciscanes en Ramon Llull (Ramon Llull's Franciscan Tendencies). This article has also been published in the EF in a special edition about this Mallorcan author.

In 2019 he wrote an obituary for Professors Curt Wittlin , who had died on September 23 of that year, and David Viera, who had previously died on September 11, 2015. The two professors had played a very important role in Francesc Eiximenis' research. This obituary was finally published in Spanish in 2020. Translations of this obituary into Catalan and English were again published this year on the website of the North American-Catalan Society .

Antiblavers project

Lluís Brines was the ideologist and creator of the website antiblavers . The purpose of this website is to fight blaverism in a scientific and serious manner . Other employees had taken care of IT topics.

At the end of 2004 a group of people from the Valencian country were very concerned about the amount of blaveristic websites (e.g. www.elpalleter.com , www.valenciafreedom.com or www.llenguavalencianasi.com ). Also, these websites were very aggressive, and asked a very partisan view. That is why these people had the intention of creating a website to fight against blaverism in a serious and scientific way . These were the reasons for the birth of www.antiblavers.info in May 2005. At the beginning the website only offered information (research materials and a picture gallery). During its first year, the website had 35,000 visits. In August 2006 an internet forum was added.

The gathering of old and modern confirmations of the old flag of the kings of Aragon in the Valencian country is considered an important milestone in the first few years . In February 2010, 2100 confirmations were collected. In the research leading to the report on the historicity of the old flag with four red stripes of the kings of Aragon on Valencian land, the creators of the website had the personalized advice of the famous Valencian heraldist Pere Maria Orts i Bosch .

At the end of 2010, the website creators suffered a libel campaign carried out by the Blaverists. You may have been very concerned about the work of clarifying the historical truth through this website and about the success of the website's campaign. A campaign of this was the campaign by antiblavers along with the website antifeixistes so conducted GAV (Group of Valencianistischer action) The Christmas exhibition Expojove not attended as an exhibitor. This website succeeded in Christmas 2010. As the Blaverists themselves recognized, Expojove was the greatest opportunity for them to attract new members to the GAV.

The apparent consequence of these exaggerated attacks was that Lluís Brines was no longer the administrator of the website in 2011, although he occasionally collaborated. From then on, other people had taken care of it. In addition, the project was divided into two websites:

  • antiblavers.org - This is the main website, and contains the majority of information and an internet forum.
  • antiblavers.info - This was the original name of the website before the project was set up. Nowadays it is a blog with a dynamic and varied content.

Blaverist threats and attacks

The first major attack by the Blaverists against Lluís Brines took place in December 2010. Then some graffiti appeared at Brines' old address in Valencia with his first name, surname and the words "pederast" and "pedophile". Such insults against him were constantly repeated on the website www.valenciafreedom.com . This website is linked to the above-mentioned GAV. This graffiti was allegedly drawn by the old GAV Youth Co-President (JJGAV) Aitor Alan Marquina Bañuls.

Threatening graffito with a direct hit against Lluís Brines Garcia, drawn on November 24, 2012. This 71 is considered the anagram of the GAV.

In January 2011, other graffiti appeared against Lluís Brines in his father's native village Simat de la Valldigna (Safor). There his first name, surname and the words "pederast" and "pedophile" were written again. Many witnesses of the village had the GAV activists from Gandia identified Francisco Albiñana Barber as the author of such graffiti.

Finally, in November 2012, another graffito appeared in front of the Valencia address that Lluís Brines used as the address for the court notices. The drawing of the graffito was Brines' first name and surname, a hit, and the signature was the anagram 71. This anagram is considered to be the signature of the GAV: 7 is the location of the letter G, and 1 is the location of the letter A within the alphabet.

The three graffiti were charged by Lluís Brines, but this type of graffiti is rarely (or never) investigated by police in Spain. So these three issues were discontinued by the legal authorities.

There is also a constant thread of discussion on the blaverist and right-wing extremist website valenciafreedom , which was probably opened by the aforementioned Francisco Albiñana Barber (with the pseudonyms paco1983 and nandivirus on this website), and in which Lluís Brines receives all sorts of insults and injuries.

In 2018 Francisco Albiñana Barber was finally fined € 600. Francisco Albiñana Barber has not attacked Lluís Brines since then. He even stopped writing on the blaverist and right-wing extremist website valenciafreedom .
