geography

Source and history

View from the path along the Klingenbach tributary to the village of Apfelbach and the Lochbachtal (from the left behind to the middle right)

The Lochbach arises on the northern edge of the Herbsthausen district of Bad Mergentheim in a small wooded area stretching northwards and runs from here in a northerly direction, which it essentially maintains up to the mouth. Its valley is initially a barely noticeable, flat hollow in a field rich in fields. After about one kilometer, it passes the Apfelhof domain on the left, and for the next two kilometers, the bottom of the meadow crosses a larger forest. After that his bed is about 300  m above sea level. NHN deepened and the forest recedes to the upper slope edge, below the right, overgrown stone bars run down the Eulenberg for the first time . From here on there are fields again along the stream at a distance, which are joined by orchards as you approach the Mergentheim district of Apfelbach.

In Apfelbach, which is located in a clearing island that also extends to the side heights, after a little more than half the run from the left, the Apfelbach flows at about 265  m above sea level. NHN , the only tributary with its own valley formation, but which often falls dry. After the sports field below the village there is a valley zone in which at around 250  m above sea level. NHN leak from many sources. A little afterwards, the brook runs for more than a kilometer a little above the right foot of the slope in a mill canal, while to the left of it the Alte Lochbach follows the depth line of the valley. The two branches unite again on the southern outskirts of Markelsheim, a district of Bad Mergentheim, which the brook crosses in many open sections.

The Lochbach then joins the Markelsheimer Tauberbrücke from the left and at about 210  m above sea level. NHN into the Mühlkanal on the left, which flows back into the Tauber a few steps later.

Already from Herbsthausen the Lochbach accompanies the K 2851 close to the left to Apfelbach, from where the K 2888 continues to Markelsheim to the left of the creek.

Catchment area

The Lochbach has a catchment area of almost 19 km². It's a northward-facing tube around the stream. The Aschbach competes in the east and south across the watershed , the Wachbach in the west , both of which are slightly longer and almost parallel tributaries, also the Tauber. The area is naturally attributed to the Tauberland , mainly to its sub-area Umpfer-Wachbach-Riedel , only near the mouth of the sub-area Middle Taubertal .

Tauber river system

Localities

The entire catchment area lies on the Bad Mergentheimer city boundary, with the exception of about 10 hectares on the eastern watershed, most of which are forest and completely unpopulated and belong to the district marking Herrenzimmern of the city of Niederstetten .

The Mergentheimer sub-locations are located one after the other on the run

Water quality

As of 2004, the Lochbach was moderately polluted along its entire course from about the middle of the forest section below the apple farm to the mouth (quality class II).

geology

The Lochbach arises a little below the strata boundary to the Unterkeuper in the Upper Muschelkalk , already reaches the Middle Muschelkalk in the middle of its forest stretch below the domain Apfelhof , and then the Lower Muschelkalk between its forest outlet and the village of Apfelbach . The floodplain sediments of the lower valley begin roughly at the exit of the Old Lochbach .

The catchment area is almost entirely in the Muschelkalk. A narrow strip of Unterseuper stretches along its uppermost border near Herbsthausen, overlaid by loess sediment at one point . On the ridge between Lochbach and Aschbachtal lies another small loess island on the road from Apfelbach to Niederstetten-Rüsselhausen .

Near the eastern watershed to the right of the upper valley, north-northwest of the hamlet of Schönbühl, an approximately 2 km long fault runs through the high wood .

Protected areas

Most of the outlying fields of the Lochbach valley from the Apfelhof and the lowest Apfelbach valley belong to the Bad Mergentheim nature reserve .

The Lochbach and its shore zone belong to the FFH area Westlicher Taubergrund .

In Herbsthausen there are two winter linden trees in front of the cemetery, another on the sidewalk from Apfelbach to the B 290, all of which are natural monuments. A piece of heather on this Kaiserstraße, part of which protrudes into the catchment area of the Apfelbach, is classified in this way, as is a wetland in the Teufelswiesen in the lower Lochbachtal at the end of the above-mentioned spring-rich valley section and another slightly below at the Argenbrunnen , which connects the brook and surrounds a half-acre pond on his left.

Large parts of the Lochbach Valley are under biotope protection. From the forest exit of the creek above Apfelbach to the end of the village there are a lot of stone bars overgrown with hedges on both valley slopes and also on the lower one of the approaching Apfelbach. Elsewhere, too, there are quite a few hedges here, which are joined by a number of poor grasslands - especially on the slopes on both sides of the lower reaches - as well as heather areas, such as the natural monument mentioned above.

The Lochbach itself and its banks are largely unspoilt on its forest passage and then below Apfelbach. Woods often accompany it like the apple creek. In Hangenwald left there are two places small blades ( Oak blade , blade at the Lichsen ) that are protected.
