The Loro Piana SpA with headquarters in Quarona is a 1924 established Italian fashion company , which initially fine wool fabrics and yarns manufactured. From the 1990s onwards, a clothing line , leather goods and accessories - for women, men and children - expanded the range in the upper price segment . Company history

Originally from Trivero arise, members began the Loro Piana family, led by Giacomo Loro Piana in 1812 as merchants with the trade of woolen fabrics. In the second half of the century they moved their business to Valsesia . In April 1924 Pietro Loro Piana finally founded today's company in Quarona near Biella . In the mid-1940s, his nephew Franco Loro Piana began the international expansion by exporting woolen fabrics. His sons Sergio (* May 24, 1948 - December 20, 2013) and Pier Luigi Loro Piana (* 1951) took over management of the company in 1975. The company value during this time was the equivalent of 1.7 million euros. A self-created coat of arms over a laurel wreath was chosen as the company logo .

For the 1992 Summer Olympics , the company provided the Italian rider team with jackets, the so-called Horsey jackets. This laid the foundation for the establishment of an own clothing line from 1998, including accessories and later also leather goods. The first Loro Piana boutique opened in New York City in 1993 , and many more followed. The first own store in Hong Kong opened its doors in 2005. As of 2012, there were a total of 135 Loro Piana stores in Europe, the USA and Asia, including branches in Frankfurt am Main , Munich , Düsseldorf , Hamburg , Keitum , Vienna , St. Moritz , Gstaad , Zurich and Geneva .

Today Loro Piana is the largest cashmere manufacturer and the largest retailer of the finest wool in the world. The wool of the vicuñas , for which the company maintains a nature reserve in Peru, is also processed by Loro Piana into high-priced cloths and clothing. Every year the company produces a limited edition of the finest suit fabrics from New Zealand merino wool . The weaving mill has held the world record for the finest spun wool fiber with a diameter of just 11.8 micrometers since 2005.

In 2008 the company was rated with a value of almost 430 million euros. The 2012 annual turnover of Loro Piana SpA amounted to around 630 million euros with a turnover increase of 13% compared to the previous year.

In July 2013, the French luxury goods group LVMH took over an 80% stake in Loro Piana for 2 billion euros. The remaining 20% ​​will remain with Sergio († December 19, 2013) and Pier Luigi Loro Piana, who will continue to manage the company. In December 2013 LVMH appointed Antoine Arnault, son of the CEO, as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of Loro Piana.
