Lothar Mark

Lothar Mark (born July 27, 1945 in Wald-Michelbach ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After graduating from high school in Mannheim , Mark completed a teaching degree in history , geography and political science at the University of Mannheim , which he completed with the first state examination for teaching at grammar schools. After the second state examination in 1972, Mark worked as a teacher , initially at the Peter-Petersen Gymnasium and finally, from 1987 to 1989 as director of studies , at the Elisabeth-Gymnasium in Mannheim. From 1984 to 1989 he was president of the Mannheimer ERC ice hockey club . Lothar Mark is married and has three children.

Mark has been a member of the SPD since 1970. From 1975 to 1989 he belonged to the council of the city of Mannheim. From 1989 to 1998 he was mayor of Mannheim for culture, schools, sports and swimming pools.

In the 1998 federal election he was elected to the Bundestag as a directly elected member of the Mannheim I constituency. In 2002 and 2005 he won the Mannheim constituency directly. In the Bundestag he was deputy chairman of the German- Brazilian parliamentary group from 1998 to 2005 and from 2002 chairman of the German- Mexican parliamentary group. In January 2003 he became the spokesman for the Latin America discussion group of the SPD parliamentary group . From 2005 he was also chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in the subcommittee of the budget committee on issues relating to the European Union . Mark did not run for the 2009 federal election .

Honors

The city of Mannheim awarded Lothar Mark the Ring of Honor in 2010 . In 2004 he was awarded the Order of the Aztec Eagle . In 2019 he received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany on the ribbon .
