Love, Peace & Money (Engl. Love, Peace & Money ) is a music album of the band Die Toten Hosen . It was produced by Jon Caffery and was released in May 1994. The phonogram was pressed in Japan and distributed there by Virgin Japan , but was also easily available as an import in Germany. Further versions of the album were also released in 1994 in Great Britain and 1995 in the USA on Atlantic Records .

For this production, the band transferred eleven of their successful titles into English, re-recorded them and put them together as a compilation , mainly for the foreign market. The album also includes two new compositions, Sexual and Love Machine, and a cover version of a song by Johnny Thunders, Diary of a Lover . The album also contains a vulgar variant of the Cuban folk song Guantanamera with the title Cunt in a Mirror as a hidden track .

Most of the songs are English versions of well-known German-language pieces by the group. However, the texts were not translated literally and in some cases differ considerably from the German originals. The translation of the lyrics into English is a collaboration between Campino, the English musicians Honest John Plain and Matt Dangerfield from The Boys as well as Campino's mother Jenny Frege and Monica Byrne, a friend of the band from Liverpool. These are the songs Liebesspieler ( Love is Here ) from the album Unter Falscher Flagge , Liebeslied ( Lovesong ) from the album Until the bitter end , Here comes Alex ( The Return of Alex ), More of it ( More & More ), Exemplary example ( Perfect Criminal ) from the album A little bit of horror show , Everything will be fine ( Year 2000 ) from the album On the crusade into happiness and buy me! ( Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is (Buy Me!) ), Alles aus Liebe ( All for the Sake of Love ), Willkommen in Deutschland ( My Land ) and Katastrophenkommando ( Chaos Bros. ) from the album Kauf mich! .

Cover

The cover photo of GABO is designed similar to that of the album Reich & sexy , but the band members are now made up against a red background as Japanese and can be seen in the midst of naked geishas . Since the album was pressed in Japan and distributed there by Virgin Japan, the booklet is written in Japanese except for the author's name.

Music videos

In 1994 two music videos were made parallel to the album. First Sexual , which was shot in New York under the direction of director Hans Neleman , and shortly thereafter the black and white film The Return of Alex , directed by René Eller in his Amsterdam studios. It shows the musicians, dressed in large checked suits, in front of a black background in glaring light with fast moving images and high contrast. Most of the time, people were shot from below or the camera came very close to their faces. This perspective makes them look distorted, like in a mirror cabinet. Campino gesticulates strongly to his singing and his face is pulled into a grimace. In between, flickering television screens are repeatedly faded in, with the picture scrolling through.

New edition 2007

For the 25th anniversary of the band, in addition to 16 other albums, all tracks by Love, Peace & Money were remastered and the CD was supplemented with additional tracks. These include In Control , which was recorded in 2001 as the soundtrack for the film Tomb Raider , and the English-language versions of the music pieces Stand up when you are on the ground ( Stand Up ) from the album Auswärtsspiel und Friss oder dies ( Dog Eat Dog ) from the single of the same name, the for the score for Land of Plenty . The translation into English is a collaboration between Campino and the English musician TV Smith . The English version of Venceremos - Wir wird Siegen ( We Will Be Heroes ) appeared on the sampler for the 2002 World Cup . The recording of Wasted Years is embedded in a radio interview, a recording from a BBC broadcast to which the band was invited in 1994.
