Reich & sexy is the first best-of album by the music group Die Toten Hosen . It was first released on November 2, 1993 on Virgin Records , after the band had released eight studio albums and one live album since 1983. The album was awarded two platinum records and is one of the best-selling albums in Germany .
Cover
On the cover photo , taken by GABO , the band poses naked on leopard skin, surrounded by thirteen naked women. In front of them lie the gold records that they have received since then. Campino has a big cigar in his mouth and is rubbing a pile of money between his ringed fingers. In front of him there is a bottle of champagne and a half-empty glass. The lady in the middle is holding a record cover with the photo of Jimi Hendrix in her hands, a small indication that this way of portraying yourself is based on the cover of Jimi Hendrix's double album Electric Ladyland . Three other women on the cover each hold a Toten Hosen record in their hands, this is the debut Opel-Gang , the live record Bis zum bitter Ende and the then current studio album Kauf MICH! .
There is also a hidden greeting to a Frankfurt record company, symbolically expressed by five small, colorful Mensch-ärgere-dich-nicht -figuren + cubes. The letter of rejection from this company dated June 1984, printed next to it, reads, among other things:
“Unfortunately we came to the conclusion that we could not find sufficient interest in the group in our house ... The reason for this is primarily to be found in the music of the group. In our opinion, the musical future possibilities of the group are limited for various reasons, so that we believe we cannot justify a long-term investment for the reasons mentioned. "

New edition 2007
For the 25th anniversary of the band, Reich & sexy was remastered among others . Two new booklets have been created containing numerous photos from the early years of the Toten Hosen. A conversation between the band and Jan Weiler is also printed, in which anecdotes from the time it was founded are disclosed. A hand-made speech by Patrick Orth, long-time friend of the band and managing director of JKP , is included as an additional title . In the four-minute parody of the Düsseldorf carnival, the native of Frankfurt pokes fun at the individual band members in the New Hesse region . Each stanza ends with the sentence: "His life is really difficult, because he is a poor musician."
