Lucia Recchia (born January 8, 1980 in Rovereto ) is a former Italian ski racer . It started mainly in the downhill and Super-G . Recchia became vice world champion in the Super-G in 2005 and achieved two podium places in the World Cup .
biography
Recchia won the Super G of the Whistler Cup in 1995 . After starting at FIS races and in the European Cup , she took part in a World Cup race for the first time in December 1998 . She achieved her first placings in the top ten of a World Cup race in December 1999 as ninth on the downhill in St. Moritz and in January 2000 as fourth on the downhill in Cortina d'Ampezzo . At the Junior World Championships in 2000 in Mont Sainte-Anne , Canada , she was runner-up behind the Swiss Fränzi Aufdenblatten and fifth in the Super-G.
Four years followed with consistently poor performance. Only at the 2001 World Ski Championships in St. Anton did she manage to place eighth in the top ten. It wasn't until February 2004 that she made it into the top 10 in the World Cup for the first time in four years. In Åre she was fourth in the Super-G. In December 2004 she just missed a World Cup victory at the Super-G in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee . With 28 hundredths of a second behind the Austrian Alexandra Meissnitzer , she took second place, which remained her best World Cup result.
The greatest success of her career came in January 2005 when she surprisingly won the silver medal in the Super-G behind the Swede Anja Pärson at the World Championships in Santa Caterina , Italy . Shortly afterwards she achieved her second and final podium finish in the World Cup with third place in the Super-G in Åre . At the Olympic Winter Games in 2006 , she achieved eighth place in the Super-G and 13th in the downhill as the best Italian.
Due to persistent back pain, Recchia had to end the 2006/07 season before the World Cup finals and could not contest any races the next winter. From the 2008/09 season she was back in the World Cup and initially reached the points in most races, but only rarely placed among the top 20. In the following winter ( 2009/10 ) she was able to follow up on previous performances and make three top ten entries. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , she achieved two top 10 placings with seventh place in the Super-G and ninth place in the downhill. After the winter she had to undergo cruciate ligament surgery on her left knee. She had already suffered a cruciate ligament injury on the downhill from Cortina d'Ampezzo in January, but was able to end the season. Due to persistent knee problems Recchia only took part in three World Cup races in Lake Louise and Cortina d'Ampezzo in the 2010/11 season .
At the beginning of the 2011/12 season, Recchia achieved her last top result in the World Cup with sixth place in the downhill from Lake Louise. A year later, during the World Cup weekend in Lake Louise, she announced her retirement due to persistent knee pain.
On July 13, 2013, Recchia married the South Tyrolean sports journalist Christoph Wieser.
