Lucian O. Meysels
Lucian O. Meysels (born May 14, 1925 in Laxenburg ; † August 21, 2012 in Vienna ) was an Austrian author and journalist .
Life
Lucian Otto Meysels, son of the journalist and writer Theodor F. (Friedrich) Meysels (1899–1963) and his wife Lucie attended the Academic Gymnasium in Vienna and, as a Jew, had to emigrate to Palestine after the “Anschluss” of Austria . In Jerusalem he attended St. Georg's School and fought for the Royal Air Force in World War II . He then studied history and archeology at the Universities of London , Wisconsin and Vienna , where he was awarded a Dr. phil. received his doctorate. His dissertation on the "Relationship between Austria and the United States 1933–1938" was the first on a purely contemporary topic at the University of Vienna.
From 1946 Meysels worked as a journalist, first for the Reuters news agency , from 1946 to 1948 for the Palestine Broadcasting Service and from 1948 to 1952 for the successor company Kol Israel . 1952–54 he was a member of the editorial staff of the " Jerusalem Post ". 1954–1957 he worked as press spokesman for the Hebrew University of Jerusalem .
After his return to Vienna, Meysels was an assistant at the Institute for Oriental Studies, Department for Hebrew Studies in 1957/1958. From 1959, at the invitation of Fritz Molden , he was responsible for the foreign policy and contemporary history sections of the Austrian news magazine “ Wochenpresse ”; from 1982 to 1991 he was deputy editor-in-chief of this newspaper.
Meysels is the author of numerous books, including God's Avengers - Fundamentalists on the Advance , in which he foresaw the development up to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 . He has received numerous awards for his publications in the field of contemporary history and foreign policy.
Others
The story is passed on in the family that an ancestor, the head of the Prague Jews, Mordechai Maisel , lent Emperor Rudolf II the money to make the imperial crown . Neither the emperor nor his successor Matthias ever repaid it. As an emperor's testimony of honor, Maisel was allowed to bequeath his property, including the emperor's two promissory notes. A copy of Maisel's will is on display in the Maisel Synagogue .

In 1940 the family changed their name in exile from "Meisel", which means "measles" in English, to "Meysels".
