Ludwig August Freiherr von Fallon (born November 27, 1776 in Namur , † September 4, 1828 in Vienna ) was an Austrian major general and cartographer .

Life

Fallon did a great job of land surveying and mapping in Austria. He came to Vienna from the Austrian Netherlands at an early age and joined the engineering corps in 1796 after studying at the engineering academy. In 1804 he accompanied Archduke Johann on a trip through Tyrol and Veneto for the purpose of national defense . 1805 worked as a captain in the general quartermaster's staff, he worked on the surveying of Tyrol and carried out an altitude measurement when climbing the Ortler . In 1806/07 he took part in the great triangulation . In 1809 he was entrusted with fortification tasks in the headquarters of Archduke Karl . 1813-15 he was in the headquarters of Field Marshal Prince Schwarzenberg . The military surveying of large parts of Austria was carried out under his direction. Also around 1817 began creating the property tax - cadastral maps he earned merit.

He was the holder of the Russian Order of St. Vladimir 3rd Class and the Prussian Military Order of Merit .
