Ludwig Johann Karl Bogen ( Ludwig was the nickname; he was called Louis ) (* June 7, 1809 in Michelstadt ; † April 6, 1886 in New Ulm (Minnesota) ) was a Hessian politician and former member of the Frankfurt National Assembly and the 2 Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

family

Louis Bogen was the son of the Earl of Erbach-Fürstenau Chamber Councilor Georg Heinrich Bogen (1780–1841) and his wife Maria Katharina nee Rexroth. In 1854 Louis Bogen married Margaretha nee Nix from Bingen in Cincinnati .

education and profession

Louis Bogen studied law in Giessen and Bonn from 1827 to 1831 . During his studies he joined the old Gießen fraternity Germania in 1827 and the Germania Bonn fraternity in 1829 . In 1834 he became court clerk at the court in Giessen .

politics

In 1835 he was arrested for allegedly participating in the Frankfurt Wachensturm and spent the time in custody in Darmstadt until 1838. In 1838 he was sentenced to eight years in prison by the Giessen court for high treason, but was pardoned in 1839. He then left the Grand Duchy and lived in Bern , where he was an administrative officer from 1838 to 1848. After the March Revolution he returned in 1848 and led the revolution in Erbach . He headed the historic Odenwald People's Assembly on the (today's Wiesenmarkt) site next to the Schützenhaus and was elected to the Frankfurt National Assembly for the 4th constituency of the Grand Duchy of Hesse (Erbach) . There he was a member of the Deutscher Hof parliamentary group . In 1849 he took part in the Baden uprising and was arrested in Michelstadt for treason, but acquitted in Darmstadt.

In the 13th and 14th electoral period (1850-1853) Ludwig Bogen was a member of the second chamber of the state estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse. In the state estates he represented the constituency of Starkenburg 9 / Michelstadt . In 1853 he emigrated to the USA. There he was editor of the "New Ulm Post".

Honors

Ludwig-Bogen-Strasse in Michelstadt is named after him.
