Live and act
Youth and education
The extended family lived with 12 children in Skotschau, then in Austria-Hungary , and the father ran a shop as a merchant. With the establishment of the Second Polish Republic in November 1918, the region with Skoczów belonged to the national territory of Poland. After graduating from high school in Cieszyn , Ludwik Klimek began studying art and painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow and then traveled to Paris on a scholarship in the spring of 1939 . He often visited the Louvre and admired the original works of art by Titians , Francisco de Goyas , Nicolas Poussins and Peter Paul Rubens . After the attack on Poland in September 1939, he stayed in Paris.
Artistic work
He illustrated a book of fairy tales that appeared in the Polish language in Paris in 1946. After the German Wehrmacht invaded Paris, he fled to the south of France and found refuge in Aix-en-Provence - after 1947 he moved to Golfe du Lion and lived in Menton . During his painting work in Vallauris from 1951 to 1952 , he met Pablo Picasso , who lived there from 1948 to 1955. He also met Marc Chagall and was friends with him for years. Together with Henri Matisse , who lived in Vence , he founded the Biennale Internationale d'Art de Menton in 1951 and exhibited his works of art there until 1972. In 1951 and 1953 he received second prize for his pictures.
Ludwik Klimek created around 3,000 works of art - mostly as oil painting on canvas , less than watercolor , pastel painting and gouache . Because of the son's long-term illness, he sold most of his works of art.
In his works of art there are often female figures bathing, naiads , mermaids , heliads , sirens as spiritual borrowings from myths and legends as well as landscapes and still life paintings .
The burial took place on December 11, 1992 in Antibes .
