Johann Ludwig Quandt

Johann Ludwig Quandt (born September 22, 1801 in Stettin , Pomerania ; † July 7, 1871 in Persanzig near Neustettin , Pomerania) was a German superintendent and historian .

Life

The evangelical clergyman Johann Ludwig Quandt was a well-known pulpit speaker in his day. He came from an old Königsberg bourgeois family and was a descendant of the Königsberg court preacher Johann Jakob Quandt . The son of a Prussian NCO visited u. a. Until the age of 14 the city school in Greifenhagen , later the United Royal and City High School in Stettin. From 1820 he studied theology at the University of Berlin , where he completed the first exam in December 1823 and the second in April 1824.

He was ordained on July 5, 1824 and was given a pastor's position in Hasenfier , Synod Ratzebuhr ( Western Pomerania ). At the same time, in July 1824, he married Charlotte Luise Stoltenburg († March 16, 1856 in Persanzig), the daughter of a brewer and distiller from the Unterwiek in Stettin. She was a highly educated woman who supported her husband in his scientific research.

In 1836 Quandt came to Rügenwalde (Western Pomerania) as superintendent and was pastor at the Marienkirche there . In 1849 he was transferred back to Persanzig, where he was superintendent to serve four churches and oversee ten schools.

As a sideline, he worked as a historian, primarily in the field of Pomeranian history. His most important publications are his contributions to the Baltic Studies . He was appointed co-editor of supplementary volumes to the history of the von Kleist family, begun by Gustav Kratz . Until the end of his life he had been the leader of the Lutheran conference in Koslin .

At the beginning of July 1871 Quandt died of a heart condition. Quandt had eight daughters, only five of whom survived their father. One daughter was the writer Clara Quandt (1841-1919).
