Ludwig Wilhelm August von Ebra (born July 28, 1759 in Uftrungen ; † June 28, 1818 in Halberstadt ) was a Prussian lieutenant general , military governor between the Elbe and Weser and heir to Uftrungen.

His parents were the electoral Saxon captain and gentleman on Uftrungen Wilhelm von Ebra and his wife Wilhelmina Elisabeth, née von Lüdecke.

Military career

Ebra came on November 1, 1774 as a private corporal in the infantry regiment "von Braunschweig" of the Prussian Army and took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession as an ensign in 1778/79 . Until January 25, 1790 he was promoted to staff captain . During the First Coalition War he fought in the cannonade of Valmy , in the battle of Pirmasens he was finally taken prisoner in the battle of Bisch.

After the war, Ebra rose to captain and company commander on April 2, 1795 . With his promotion to major on August 24, 1797, he was commander of the grenadier battalion in the infantry regiment "de Courbière" . On the occasion of a military parade , Ebra received the order Pour le Mérite on June 2, 1802 . On August 22, 1804 he became the commander of the infantry regiment "von Wartensleben" . During the Fourth Coalition War he was saved seriously injured in the battle of Auerstedt . Ebra came to Halberstadt and after his recovery made his way to East Prussia . But his right hand remained paralyzed. King Friedrich Wilhelm III. re-enlisted in the army in 1807. On January 26, 1808 he was appointed commander of the 1st Pomeranian Infantry Regiment and promoted to lieutenant colonel on February 24, 1808 with a patent from May 14, 1807 . With a patent dated May 21, 1809, he was promoted to colonel on May 20, 1809 . On April 19, 1811 he also became a brigadier of the Pomeranian Troop Brigade. On November 18, 1811 Ebra received his departure with the character as major general.

With the beginning of the Wars of Liberation in 1813, Ebra was reactivated and on November 20, 1813, he was appointed military governor of the country between the Elbe and Weser as the successor to Major General von Krusemark . His official seat was in Halberstadt. In 1814 he received the Iron Cross 2nd class. On July 22, 1815, he was retired again with the character of lieutenant general and a pension of 1,500 thalers. He died on June 28, 1818 in Halberstadt of an inflammation of the spleen.

Ebra married on November 23, 1786 in Halberstadt Dorothea Johanna Wilhelmine Schaeffer (* July 21, 1766; † April 4, 1823), a daughter of the superintendent Christian Ludwig Schaeffer (1732-1810). The couple had several children:
