Luka Žagar (born June 25, 1978 in Ljubljana , SR Slovenia ) is a former Slovenian - Croatian ice hockey player who played in the Austrian ice hockey league from 1994 to 2010 for the HK Jesenice and the KHL Medveščak Zagreb, among others .

Career

Luka Žagar began his career as a hockey player in the youth department of HDD Olimpija Ljubljana in his hometown, for whose professional team he was active in the Slovenian ice hockey league from 1994 to 1999 . In each of his first five career years he won the championship title with his team . The winger then played for city neighbor HK Slavija Ljubljana for two years before returning to Olimpija. With the capital city, he was again champion three times in a row in 2002, 2003 and 2004. At the same time, he took part with his team in the multinational Interliga , which could be won in the 2001/02 season .

From 2004 to 2008 Žagar was under contract with HK Jesenice , with whom he was also Slovenian champion in 2005, 2006 and 2008. He was also successful with the Slovenes in the Interliga in 2005 and 2006. When winning the Interliga B group in 2007, however, he was not on the ice in any game. He also finished the playoffs of the Slovenian league in the 2006/07 season at his ex-club HK Slavija Ljubljana. For the 2008/09 season , the Slovenian international moved to KHL Medveščak Zagreb , where he did not fall under the foreigner contingent due to his dual citizenship. For Medveščak he ran parallel in the Slovenian ice hockey league and the Croatian ice hockey league and immediately became Croatian champions with the team in the playoffs . After Medveščak was accepted into the Austrian Ice Hockey League for the 2009/10 season , he made two assists in 14 games. He also played two games for his second team in the Slohokej League . He then ended his career at the age of 32.

International

For Slovenia , Žagar took part in the junior division of the U18 Junior C European Championships in 1995 and 1996 and the U20 Junior World Championships in 1996 and 1997 . In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the B World Championships in 2000 and 2004 and at the A World Championships in 2002 , 2003 , 2005 and 2006 .
