Luther Barnhardt

Luther Ernest Barnhardt (born November 29, 1903 in Concord , North Carolina , † June 1, 1980 in Charlotte , North Carolina) was an American politician . Between 1957 and 1961 he was lieutenant governor of the state of North Carolina.

Career

Luther Barnhardt graduated from Wake Forest University . After studying law and being admitted to the bar , he worked in Concord for the next 57 years. He then also became a member of the American Bar Association. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1945 and 1956 he was a member of the North Carolina Senate , of which he was acting president for three years.

In 1956, Barnhardt was elected lieutenant governor of North Carolina alongside Luther Hodges . He held this office between 1957 and 1961. He was Deputy Governor and formal chairman of the State Senate. For constitutional reasons, he could not be re-elected in 1960. After his time as Lieutenant Governor, he was no longer politically active. He died on June 1, 1980 in Charlotte.
