Walter H. Dalton

Walter H. Dalton (born May 21, 1949 in Rutherfordton , Rutherford County , North Carolina ) is an American politician ( Democratic Party ). He was from January 10, 2009 to January 7, 2013, the 33rd Lieutenant Governor of the state of North Carolina. Prior to his election to this office, he was a member of the North Carolina General Assembly , representing the 46th Senate District, including Cleveland and Rutherford Counties .

Career

Dalton made 1971 his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration ( Engl. Business Administration ) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . He then worked in a bank. A few years later he went back to the university, where he did his Juris Doctor in 1975 . After his admission to the bar, he then practiced in Rutherfordton . Years later, he decided to pursue a political career when he was elected to the North Carolina Senate in 1996 and served six terms there. In 2007 he announced his candidacy for the office of lieutenant governor of North Carolina. On May 6, 2008, he won the Democratic nomination, defeating Hampton Dellinger , Patrick Smathers and Dan Besse . The later elections in the state on November 4, 2008, he won. On January 10, 2009, he took office as Lieutenant Governor .

He is also a member and lay speaker in the Methodist Church and a club scout leader.

family

Dalton's father, Charles, was also a Senator from North Carolina. Walter's wife, Lucille, previously worked as a teacher and was a member of the local school board . The couple have two children together, Brian and Elizabeth.
